Fires
The fires still rage on here in California. We are not (at the moment) in any dire risk of having our house burned down, but the air quality is just… horrid. I’ve seen folks in the Bay Area complain in their blogs about the smoke, but being even closer to the fires, it’s even worse here. I hadn’t realized just how bad until the AC unit in our bedroom started to act up. I almost always clean out the filter once a week, but this was middle of the week and it seemed unlikely that the filter would be dirty after only a few days. Still, I pulled it out to check and the whole thing was pure black. It was so gross, and what was worse, everyone in the house has been complaining of “black boogers” - that is to say, that after blowing one’s nose, sooty residue comes out along with everything else. YUCK.
Typically, this is an extremely dry time of year, but it feels even dryer than normal. We built a gazebo just before TDO had surgery (oh… by the way he had surgery a week and a half ago on his bum shoulder), and installed a misting system. I can’t tell you how incredibly nice that is. Still, being outside is unappealing when breathing in “campfire air” the whole time. I really, really hope they get these fires under control. I can only imagine the extensive damage to the actual plants, animals, trees, etc. I haven’t kept up with the home losses, since at least close to us, the fires rage in remote forest areas, so it’s not as much of a concern, but I’m sure that’s something to consider, too.
Ugh. So that’s what’s up with us. We haven’t burned into little charcoal bits, TDO seems to be healing very well (better than expected) though he’ll be out of work at least a month and not back on the road for at least four months. He’s been contemplating taking a desk job for awhile, anyway, so we’ll see what happens. *shrug*
Hope everyone out there stays safe. And if you’re having excess rains, please feel free to send them this way.

The smoke got better here in Sacramento, and I know alot of the fire are out or under control. I didn’t know you still had some burning so close to you. That sucks and my prayers are with you and your family. If you want to come down for a visit, your always welcome.

The smell has been annoying at worst here, I’m not really upset about *smelling* it, it just freaks me out to know what’s going on elsewhere if I can smell the fires here every day. When I was in 6th grade, there was a series of huge fires all around where I lived and I remember the soot on the pool, the constantly smoky air, how the smell of smoke was just with us all the time, it was terrible :(

Ugh the concept of sooty boogers just makes me cringe. That is horrible! I hope it rains or they get it under control soon. I remember the year the mountain right behind my parents house was on fire (we got evacuated because it came so close) and the pool was just covered with ash.
I hope TDO feels better soon!
