I am ashamed to admit it, but I read less than half a dozen books last year.
You read that right - and no I’m not exaggerating. I think I read five books, but it may have been only four. Normally, I keep track over at Goodreads but I didn’t even bother to track what I was reading nor to set any reading goals for 2016. Ouch.
To be (somewhat?) fair, I am not counting knitting or other how-to books, nor poetry books (even though I was very excited to get my copy of “Discovering Duluoz” by Doug Metz and read it cover to cover the day I got it and bits and pieces many times again since), nor RPG books or other game materials. I have also read my fair share of magazine and newspaper articles and even a bit of research on this or that, but as far as straight up “books” - nope.
This past year has been a bit of a blur. I don’t even really recall what I did with my time other than drive - a LOT - taking Jenica from this appointment to that or carting her to church and back or to the grocery store or to my own mindfulness classes or psychiatrist appointments. Being crazy is fucking hard work. Just saying.
At any rate, I know there were times I could have been reading, but instead I spent too much time watching garbage (and some badass stuff, too!) or knitting and crocheting (a LOT - no seriously, a LOT!!) And playing a lot of Savage Worlds Deadlands and a lot of first edition D&D and some board games. But ultimately? I miss reading, and I won’t lie, I’m suffering a bit of brain rot from lack of use.
So help me out, folks. What do you do to stay motivated toward reading? What are you reading these days? I have an iPad full of books I’ve downloaded, but none of them sing to me, so what would you recommend? And have you set any 2017 goals toward reading or do you even feel like you need to?

I think you would really enjoy “Carry On, Warrior” or “Love Warrior” if you haven’t already read them. They are written by a blogger, Glennon Doyle Melton from Momastery.com.

Thanks for the recommendation, Kristin. I hope you and yours are well!
